The Mixtape

The MixtapeMixes are not that uncommon anymore, with the internet being a conduit for artist and DJ’s alike to celebrate their creative freedom. One mix in particular is making a scene on Vimeo and has already been chosen as a Staff Pick. This mix celebrates over 50 years of the cassette tape by combining classic music with some of the top hits of today’s time. It’s a brilliant combination that we think you will agree, works very well together.

The artist who were featured in this mix were talented, but think about it, the person or people behind making the mix have to be talented as well. To take songs that don’t sound like they would go together well and put them into one song and have it sound fantastic takes a lot of skill! Somebody That I Used To Know

By now I am sure that you have herd one, two, three, possibly more versions of this song than you can count. The question that is puzzling everyone’s mind is, which is the best? Somebody That I Used To Know is a song from Gotye’s new album, Making Mirrors. Walk Off The Earth has a widely popular cover of the song that has been featured on countless television shows, websites, and news articles. The video is nothing short of inspirational. Some big names, including Ingrid Michaelson, have even covered the song. Ok, this is a good song, but what about it makes it that special? My guess is the simple and relaxed tone that it conveys. Since we can’t decide which version is the best, we have chosen the top three and we will let you be the judge. Just click the artist you would like to hear sing it and fall in love with the song that has inspired millions!

Carpenters In Performance 1972

I am a huge fan of concerts on film! Recently MVD informed me about a fantastic performance on DVD by the Carpenters. For those of you who think you don’t know who the Carpenters are, consider for a moment if you have herd any songs from the 70s, chances are if you have then you probably herd a song or two by them. It’s rare that my generation gets a glimpse into the past in such a way that not only shares the culture and styles of the time, but also shows the amount of talent that was prominent during the time period.

The DVD is filmed in Japan and not only gives you a front row seat to a Carpenters concert, but it also shows how they were a worldwide favorite during the 70’s! The performance is phenomenal and a must see for any fan of their music, and even those who have yet to hear of them. There is such a rich history behind the band and their music, and they have withstood the test of time. To purchase a copy for yourself, just check out MVD’s website or click here: Carpenters Live In 1972.

The Hunger Games: Safe & Sound

With the anticipation of The Hunger Games movies just months away everyone was excited to hear about a new single released from the soundtrack that features Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars! It was quite shocking to learn that Taylor Swift is going to be a part of the original motion picture soundtrack, but then again they do need amazing artist to assist the hopefully amazing movies that they have made to accompany the fans of the book series. As of now no other news about the soundtrack has been released, but you can buy this song on iTunes now! The new question that remains is who else will be on the whole oficial soundtrack once it is released? That is a question that only Lionsgate, and time can answer!

All About Us

The new song All About Us by He Is We, featuring Owl City, is well, a love song. However, it has more to offer than just being a cute love song. He Is We is an indie group that I haven’t listened to before, and I was impressed with this. Adding in the more familiar voice of Owl City just added a bonus to what could have already been a good song. Their voices go so well together!

So, maybe you’re not convinced by a love song. The video is very powerful. Not only is it beautiful, literally! The visual aspect of it is wonderful. The scenery, and backgrounds are remarkable. The video has a deeper more beautiful and unexpected meaning. It’s sweet and emotional, showing two overly adorable lovers. The twist is that the girl had cancer, and by the end of the video has lost her hair from chemotherapy. The boy is staying with her, taking her out, and even gives a ring.

After listening to the song, and putting it with the video, it’s given it a deeper meaning. It made me smile, and feel. Also, now I’m more curious about the group He Is We and am actually going to look them up on iTunes right now. You can listen and buy All About Us on iTunes!
