Starbucks Secret Ingredient: Beetles

I am a huge supporter of Starbucks and their amazing selection of coffee and coffee related products, but when news came about that they were using crushed beetles, yes, crushed beetles in their strawberry and red colored products, I almost got sick to my stomach. Don’t fret, not everyone has been drinking these beetles, just those of you who have been drinking their strawberry drinks and smoothies, eating their red velvet pies or cake pops, and snacking on their pink colored pies.

Now let’s get down to the facts. There are these exotic beetles that when frozen and crushed make a red liquid that the FDA has even approved. Starbucks, along with many other companies and manufactures including cosmetic brands, yogurt companies, and even ice cream makers, have been using this dye material for quite some time. Recently Starbucks was petitioned (thank God) by a group of Vegans and Vegetarians. Now Starbucks claims that by the end of June they will have replaced the beetle based dye in their products with a tomato based product. It’s hard to believe all of this, but it’s all too true. Now only is it gross and sickening to think about, but it’s very inhumane to take thousands, possibly millions, of beetles and just grind them up into a juice for us to enjoy at around $5 a cup at our local Starbucks. I am just glad to hear that Starbucks is doing something to change this, though it does make you wonder what is in all of the food we eat and drink, doesn’t it?

BODUM French Press

Who loves fresh and flavorful coffee? Well, do we have something to tell you about! For those of you looking to make a simple cup of coffee and have it taste as good as the stuff you get at a coffee house, then BODUM is for you. They are pioneers in design and class when it comes to coffee and those who drink it. One of the main things that BODUM boast is their French Presses and the ease of use when it comes to making coffee with them.

I can personally attest to how simple it is to use one of their French Presses. They are not only functional, but beautiful in design and aesthetics. I would like to note that you will want to get rough ground coffee that is thicker than the stuff that Starbucks sells in bags in order to reduce the grounds that show up in your delicious cup of coffee. Thin and finely ground coffee will sneak its way through the filter little pieces at a time, so trust me and go with some rough ground coffee.

If you are looking for flavor that surpasses most all other coffee makers and a product that not only does its job, but looks good on the tabletop when not in use, then you will for sure want to take a look at the wide range of French Presses and products offered by BODUM.
